From 2020 – 2021, I took the chance to move from the City of Cape Town into the arid landscape of the Northern Cape, South Africa. This was just after the hard lockdown of Covid.

My home then became a remote place – it was operating as a combined model: being a sheep farm and a nature reserve simultaneously, the KhoiSan Karoo Conservancy.

Silence. Grassland. Horizons. Sunsets. Night drives. Braai in the veld. Frozen pipes in the winter. Dusty heat in the summer. Bird watching. Buffalo relocations. Local cuisine. Lovely neighbors. Farm workers. Intermittent internet. 75 km to the hairdresser. International guests. Stars in the sky. Walking….

The owner of the property is a member of my PLCnetwork of the Southern Hemisphere. During my stay, I supported him in his NGO work, e.g. with a funding presentation, a magazine article, and more.
